We often get asked about “Trash the Dress” photo-shoots
What is your idea of a “Trash the Dress” photo-shoot in Bora Bora? A google search brings an explanation from Wikipedia as the top result.
“Trash the dress“, also known as “fearless bridal” or “rock the frock“, is a style of wedding photography that contrasts elegant feminine clothing with an environment in which it is out of place creating a photo essay of contrast, beauty, and dramatic transformation. It is generally shot in the style of fashion or glamour photography. Such photography often takes place on a beach, but other locations often include lakes and streams, city streets, rooftops, water falls, muddy fields, tub-shower units, garbage dumps, fields, and abandoned buildings.
Some sources claim that the trend was originally started in 2001 by Las Vegas wedding photographer John Michael Cooper,[2] however, the idea of destroying a wedding dress has been used by the American film industry symbolically since at least October 1998 when Meg Cummings (played by Susan Ward) of the show Sunset Beach ran into the ocean in her wedding dress after her wedding was interrupted.

Many couples will opt to get wet, the Bora Bora lagoon with its clear water provides great opportunities for such photos. There are a few ways we can capture these shots, while we are on the surface / land and our couples either in the water or jumping in! We will be happy to coach you through the shot, we will of course do this at the end of a photo-shoot; we can do it with any photo-package – Make sure to let us know you wish to do it and we will plan the shooting accordingly.
Jumping in is a fun idea, we love it! Most resorts Over Water Bungalows have deep enough water to safely realize this shots, capturing photos in flight makes for a unique and beautiful scene. Once in the water, floating or standing in the water makes for some very nice shots with the dress floating beneath the surface. We will normally try to find a high spot from the surface to capture these images, showing the dress floating.
