In the world of photographing events, couples & weddings, teamwork and collaboration between the second shooter as well as the clients are often the keys to capturing breathtaking moments.

And what better partner to have by your side than your spouse? Let’s explore the numerous benefits of working with your wife as an assistant and second shooter. We will also delve into how having a dedicated partner can help you achieve shots that are otherwise impossible to capture alone, such as gracefully “flying” a dress or veil. Let’s dive in!

During a wedding ceremony, Bonnie will often be my second shooter which offers a significant advantage in terms of capturing a wider range of perspectives. While the primary photographer takes center stage, the second shooter can capture candid moments, reactions, and different angles, providing a more diverse and comprehensive collection of photographs during these very special moments.

1. Seamless Communication:
Working with your spouse as an assistant and second shooter means having a level of communication that goes beyond words. You share a deep connection and understanding, which translates into a seamless experience for our clients & couples . Without the need for verbal cues, we can anticipate each other’s actions, ensuring that we capture the perfect shot every time.

2. Trust and Support:
Trust is the foundation of any successful partnership, and who better to trust than your life partner? When your spouse serves as your assistant and second shooter, you can rely on their unwavering support and dedication. They know your strengths, weaknesses, and artistic vision, allowing them to provide invaluable assistance and feedback throughout the shoot.

3. Enhanced Creativity:
Collaborating with your spouse introduces a unique dynamic that can elevate your creativity as a photographer. Your shared experiences, interests, and perspectives can inspire fresh ideas and innovative approaches to capturing moments. Together, you can brainstorm creative concepts, experiment with different angles, and push the boundaries of your artistic vision.

4. Efficient Workflow:
Having a dedicated assistant and second shooter enables a more efficient workflow during a photoshoot. While you focus on composing the perfect shot, your spouse can handle logistics, such as adjusting lighting, managing equipment, and coaching our couples. This division of labor ensures that the shoot runs smoothly, allowing you to concentrate on your creative process.

5. Capturing Candid Moments:
Weddings and other special events are filled with fleeting, candid moments that require quick reflexes and a keen eye. With your spouse as your second shooter, you can cover a broader range of perspectives simultaneously. While you capture the main event, your spouse can discreetly capture candid moments from a distance and using different angles, ensuring that no precious memories go uncaptured.

6. The “Flying” Dress or Veil Shot:
One of the most magical shots in wedding photography is the “flying” dress or veil shot. This shot requires not only a skilled photographer but also an assistant who can create movement to help manipulate the dress or veil. With your wife as your assistant, you can achieve this shot effortlessly. She can gracefully handle the dress or veil, creating an ethereal effect as it floats in the air, resulting in stunning and captivating image.

7. A Team Built on Love and Connection:
Working alongside your spouse creates a unique bond and connection that shines through in your work. Your partnership is built on a foundation of love, trust, and shared goals. This emotional connection can be felt in your photographs, adding an extra layer of depth and intimacy to your imagery. Clients will undoubtedly appreciate the love and connection that radiates from your work.
